“The General Prosecutor's Office announces that, after investigating, including by filming eye-witnesses, the statements of the Pro TV cameraman Mihai Sambra about being allegedly tortured by the police [have not confirmed yet”], reads a press release issued by the General Procuratura, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. {(The underlining belongs to the Procuratura)}. Instructed by the General Prosecutor, the investigations have been carried out by the Chisinau Procuratura, jointly with the Internal Security Service of the Interior Ministry. According to the people heard, it results that in the evening of October 8, the Pro TV cameraman, being inebriated, at his domicile, started a conflict with several students from Stefan Neaga College. One of them caused Sambra corporeal injuries near the Vega bar on H. Botev street, leading to brain concussion, and fracture of the nasal bone. Sambra's inebriation and corporeal injuries were confirmed by a doctor from the Emergency Hospital, who assisted him at 14:20, on October 9, 2008. Under those circumstances, the Prosecutor's Office is to hear Sambra concerning the case, and them will decide whether to start a penal inquest. Following the medical checkup, the Procuratura will also say its position concerning the hooligan-like actions undertaken by Sambra as to students from the dormitory of Stefan Neaga college, species the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office. According to Pro TV, one of its cameramen was allegedly beastly beaten on October 8 in the offices of Buiucani police in Chisinau. Mihai Sambra was taken by a police patrol on the street and carried to the police commissariat, where he was allegedly maltreated by four policemen. Mihai Sambra was set free the next day, and says no minutes were written concerning his arrest and no explanation was delivered. According to the forensic doctor, the cameraman has brain concussion and his nose is broken.
