MP of the ACUM Bloc Radu Marian said the Second Kroll Report showed the amounts stolen from Moldova’s banking system are even larger than it was earlier reported and the complicity of the Shor group is even more evident. According to him, the prosecutor general stated there is no list of beneficiaries, but the Kroll report on its second page says such a list exists and was earlier sent to some of the Moldovan authorities.

“Today the Prosecutor General’s Office is an accomplice to this fraud as it hid this list and all these details. We are facing new international shame, as in the past,” Radu Marian stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

Socialist MP Grigore Novac said the goal pursued by contracting the foreign company Kroll to investigate the bank fraud was to shift emphases. The state institutions had all the data and could conduct an own investigation. “I remember that when Mister Viorel Chetraru served as director of the National Anticorruption Center, he said from the Parliament’s rostrum that the Second Kroll Report is nothing else but belles letters as the NAC possesses more information,” stated the MP. According to him, the NAC, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office had all the legal mechanisms and instruments to investigate and identify the final beneficiaries as well.

Political commentator Anatol Țăranu said a group of prosecutors should be entrusted with the task of examining exclusively the bank fraud. This group can be set up by a Parliament decision. “They should be detached from the Prosecutor’s Office and even placed above this. The group should investigate only the operations related to this concrete case given its exceptional importance for society,” he stated, noting this group should also probe the involvement of the Prosecutor’s Office in this case.
