The press briefing announced by the prosecutor general for 6pm didn’t take place. A number of portals reported that Alexander Stoianoglo was arrested, but this information hasn’t been confirmed by the Prosecutor General’s Office so far.

Videos with persons in balaclavas who enter the building of the PGO appeared on social networking sites. Those who posted the images suggest that these went to arrest the prosecutor general.

The acting head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Adrian Bordianu and the spokeswoman for the PGO Maria Vieru were unavailable for comment, IPN reports.

There is no information confirming or refuting the arrest of Alexander Stoianoglo on the PGO’s website. The invitation to the press briefing is the last information published there.

Earlier, Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco posted on Facebook that he was informed by mail that the prosecutor designated by the Superior Council of Prosecutors to examine aspects invoked by PAS MP Lilian Carp about Alexandr Stoianoglo decided to take legal action against the prosecutor general and to suspend this from post for the period of the investigation.

In his claim, Lilian Carp, who heads the commission on national security, defense and public order, asked to investigate the prosecutor general for abuse of power and passive corruption. He invokes ties between Veaceslav Platon and Alexandr Stoianoglo in the money laundering case coined “Laundromat”.
