Prosecutor General appointed as presidential counsellor

Prosecutor General Valeriu Balaban has been appointed, by presidential decree, as counsellor of the President of the Republic of Moldova with special missions and for foreign assistance coordination, a press release from the Presidential Press Service says.
Valeriu Balaban has been assigned as Prosecutor General of Moldova on December 5, 2003, after he served as head of the Information and Security Service (SIS) Director Staff.
Balaban graduated from the law faculty of the Moldova State University. In the period from 1987 to 1990 he was investigator at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Ungheni, and later served as judge in Rezina. In 1993 he was employed as superior representative at the Rabnita section of the Ministry of National Security. From 1996 to 2002 he has been the deputy head and then the head of the Law and Treaties Department of SIS. Since 2002 till 2005 he held the office of head of SIS Director Staff.
