The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed with the investigation and sent to court the criminal case started against a prosecutor from Nisporeni. This was arrested a month ago on suspicion of acts of corruption, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Legal action was taken by Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin. The prosecutor is suspected of asking for and taking US$500 and 2,000 lei from a person investigated for putting forged money into circulation. In exchange for the money, the prosecutor was to pass a favorable judgment with regard to this person. But the prosecutor didn’t deliver on his promise and agreed to give back the money he received illegally. He was caught red-handed in his office by anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center.
The Supreme Council of Prosecutors suspended the prosecutor from post and this is now investigated under house arrest. He faces up to 15 years in jail and a maximum fine of 200,000 lei and can be banned from holding public posts for a period of up to 15 years.
