Promo-LEX condemns the case of kidnapping of a citizen of the Republic of Moldova from the center of Chisinau by representatives of the Transnistrian militia and reiterates that such actions represent serious violations of fundamental human rights. The association considers that this situation was possible also due to the absence of a firm reaction and prompt investigations into previous similar acts, IPN reports.
The association noted that the actions of the de facto militiamen from the Transnistrian region, who entered the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities unhindered and detained a person in broad daylight, defy any legal norm and contravene all international treaties and conventions to which the Republic of Moldova is a party.
"Such acts are characteristic of an abusive and arbitrary regime and have the potential to spread fear and mistrust among the citizens," reads a press release issued by Promo-LEX.
The association calls on the authorities to ensure effective protection for the family of the kidnapped person and to provide the necessary psychological, legal and social assistance. "Any lack of prompt and appropriate reaction can aggravate the situation and undermine citizens' trust in state institutions," stressed Promo-LEX.
The association reiterates that the failure of the Prosecutor's Office to promptly and efficiently investigate the crimes committed by representatives of the Transnistrian administration calls into question the state's capacity to protect its citizens and ensure the observance of fundamental rights throughout the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Moldova.
Promo-LEX calls on the Prosecutor General's Office to investigate this case as a matter of priority and calls upon the constitutional authorities to ensure the strict application of national legislation and international standards in the security zone and throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, the person was kidnapped last night in Chisinau. The man allegedly committed a robbery in the Transnistrian region.
Promo-LEX lawyer Vadim Vieru told IPN that it is known that a man was kidnapped and taken to the Transnistrian region. Three militiamen from the region were arrested.
Asked by IPN to comment on this case, the Bureau for Reintegration Policies said that the law enforcement agencies are taking the required actions.
