A 16 year old girl from Chisinau was forced to beg for several months in a city in Russia. The young man, suspected of human trafficking, lured the girl by marriage and convinced her to follow him to Russia.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, he had deceitfully obtained the consent of girl's guardian. Afterwards, he took her to Russia, first in Habarovsk region, then in Vladivostok.
In Vladivostok, the girl was deprived of her papers and forbidden to contact her relatives in Moldova. For 5 months, the underage girl was forced to beg on the streets, either alone or together with a disabled person, and tasked to bring no less than 8,000 rubles daily. She was permanently threatened with death and often beaten.
Finding the victim was possible with the help of Russian law enforcement bodies. She was repatriated and two members of the group were arrested. A criminal case on human trafficking was started. The suspects risk sentences of up to 15 years' imprisonment.
