Four ministries combined efforts to ensure the welfare of children in the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Interior signed an agreement to this effect. The project will be piloted with support from USAID in the districts of Ungheni, Falesti, and Calarasi with the intention of extending it all over the country, IPN reports.
In the signing ceremony, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Stela Grigoras said international experience shows that where the ensuring of child welfare is a national priority, while the legal framework is implemented by all the specialized services in cooperation, the intervention of specialists efficiently prevents the appearance or worsening of risk situations and ensures child welfare.
For her part, Minister of Education Corina Fusu noted that the teachers, alongside the family, are those who know best the emotional state of the child and thus are those who should intervene at the opportune moment. “An additional resource in ensuring the welfare of our children can never be in surplus,” she stated.
Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan said not only the family, but also society should take care to ensure child welfare, while the Ministry of Health is interested in having children who grow physically and mentally healthy in Moldova. She assured that the authority she represents will be making effort to exclude situations of risk involving children, while the future doctors will be trained in college or university how to determine the child’s level of welfare.
Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan underlined that the measures stipulated in the signed accord perfectly match the community police concept, which is another project piloted in a number of districts.
USAID Moldova Representative Karen Hilliard said the United States since 2010 has provided US$7.3 million to Moldova to ensure the welfare of children, while the project launched in partnership by the four ministries implies the modification of the working method for protecting children.
