The project to ensure the reunion with Romania in 2018 is a mobilizing one, but implies hard work, Victor Juc, vice director of the Institute of Legal and Political Research of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, said in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel.
“The union can be decided only as a result of referendum. We have the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, which, if Moldova renounces its statehood, can claim the right to self-determination. There is also the problem of the eastern districts. The results of the referendum will not be favorable to the union. The union will most probably take place in a distant future. The reunification process should occur through the integration into the EU,” stated Victor Juc.
He considers the number of supporters of the union increased in Moldova because the living conditions worsened. “A larger number of people now say that the Republic of Moldova is a failed project. The people are dissatisfied with the living conditions that worsened during the last few years,” said the scientist.
According to Victor Juc, the union with Romania would essentially change things in Moldova. “Our country would immediately fall under the remit of the legislation of Romania and the EU. Practice showed that great changes occurred in Romania after it joined the EU,” he stated.
