“Better Life Opportunities for Disabled Children” is the theme and major objective of a project that was launched recently by the Moldovan Association “Motivation” in partnership with the Rehabilitation Centres for Children with Special Needs located in Peresecina, Cahul and Comrat.
Project coordinator Igor Mereacre told Info-Prim Neo that the Association aims to improve the rehabilitation services and to socially integrate the over 100 children with special needs that will be beneficiaries of the project. There will be worked new out strategies and methods for rehabilitating the disabled children. By involving representatives of the local authorities in different activities, the organisers want to establish an efficient partnership between the NGOs working in the field and the authorities. Also, the specialists dealing with the rehabilitation and integration of children with special needs will attend a series of training seminars. A part of the specialists will pay a fact-finding visit to Lithuania this summer.
At the same time, there will be organised a summer camp for 80 children and their parents that will be engaged in different development competitions and games. The contest themed “Abilimpics” will be held as part of the project for the first time. It is planned to become an international Olympiad of abilities.
Igor Mereacre says that the Association faces a number of problems in organising the summer camp. First of all, Moldova does not have a camp adapted to the needs of the persons in wheelchairs. During several consecutive years, the summer camp was organised with the support of sponsors at the resort of the Government’s Apparatus in Holercani village, while last September at a camp in Vadul lui Voda town. Though the coordinators found foreign funds to organise the camp this year, no resort is yet disposed to host the camp in summer, when the children are on holiday.
The project “Better Life Opportunities for Disabled Children” is financed by the Representative Office of the Swedish Organization for Individual Relief “SOIR Moldova” and will be implemented during a years.
