The illegal trading in drugs in Moldova is encouraged by the people’s increased demand for drug names that are not registered in Moldova, said the Ministry of the Interior. Banned drugs to the value of over 1 million lei, including counterfeit medicines, were found in 2011 at clandestine storehouses and at drugstores. There were started nine legal cases. The information was provided in a working meeting held in the Government Building, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Ministry of the Interior informed the Licensing Chamber and the Ministry of Health about the identified violations. The Ministry’s report describes a case when a group of people illegally imported drugs from Ukraine, kept them in storehouses in the Transnistrian region and then transported them in small batches over the Nistru and supplied them to over 70 drugstores all over the country. In the same meeting, the Customs Service presented information about the importation of drugs. In 2011, there were identified six cases of declaration of incorrect codes of the imported drugs for which there is paid VAT of 0% to 8%. As a result, the Customs Service levied over 700,000 lei that was transferred to the state budget.
