The Progressive Society Party decided not to support any of the candidates for mayor general of Chisinau after the party’s aspirant Andrei Munteanu, who is the party’s acting chairman, wasn’t registered as a runner in the May 20 elections. The party’s administration said these elections are nothing but a game and none of the candidates has a well-defined program. That’s why the party calls on its members and sympathizers not to take part in the mayoral elections.

In a news conference at IPN on May 16, Andrei Munteanu said the decision not to register him as an election runner was taken after the ex-chairman of the party, who was excluded from the party’s ranks this February owing to the committed illegalities, filed a notice. This way the electoral body abused its authority, erroneously interpreting internal matters of the party.

Andrei Munteanu noted that in the election campaign he wanted to warn the public about the major problems existing in the municipality. Analyzing the electoral programs, he determined that none of the electoral competitors has a mature view on the formation of the municipal budget. “We wanted to warn and to underline that the weakness of Chisinau municipality is due to the lack of an efficient economic policy and of specialists in economy,” he said.

The Progressive Society Party challenged in the Appeals Court the April 25 decision by which the Chisinau District Electoral Council refused to register Andrei Munteanu as a runner in the May 20 elections.
