Programs to train persons with visual and hearing impairments, followed by their subsequent employment, started to be worked out in the Transnistrian region, IPN reports.

This is a component of a regional project intended for socially deprived groups of people. The program also envisions the editing and purchase of specialized literature for persons with visual impairments.

According to acting regional coordinator of the social protection and labor institution Oleg Fedotov, in Transnistria there are enough correctional education institutions for children with health problems. However, there are no lyceums and professional training colleges for persons with disabilities and special enterprises for employing these in the region. A part of persons with visual and hearing impairments study at vocational institutions in the same conditions as the other students, but it is hard for them to achieve high standing owing to the health problems. After they graduate, they face different problems when looking for a job.

Currently, a database on persons with disabilities in Transnistria is being compiled. A special program will be later thought up to enable these persons to attend specialized training courses. The number of sign language interpreters in the region will be thus increased.
