The program of high schools will be amended starting with the 2015-2016 academic year. The number of obligatory disciplines will be reduced, some of the connected disciplines will be merged, while the optional courses will be diversified, Minister of Education Maia Sandu said in the annual conference of teachers from Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.
“A working group was created to design scenarios for developing high school education and staging public debates for choosing suitable options,” said Maia Sandu. She added that the high schools now have a loaded curriculum, with an increased degree of relevance for the professional and social development of the child. “We want an education process adjusted to the labor market requirements,” stated the minister.
Education and Science Trade Unions chairman Dumitru Ivanov supported the Ministry’s idea. As a father and grandfather, he said that the child today no longer wants to go to school as the program is burdened and there is no time to develop oneself in other areas, to relax and to go for a walk. “The children cannot assimilate as much as we want and the Baccalaureate exams showed this,” he stated.
Natalia Timofei, principal of the Theoretical High School “Mihail Kogalniceanu”, said experiences show that the child is studying what he considers useful and wants to know more. That’s why the simplification of the school program is opportune.
