Acting mayor general of Chisinau municipality Silvia Radu and mayor general of Bucharest municipality Gabriela Firea signed a program of cooperation in culture, education and healthcare between the two municipalities.

“It is an ambitious project in the year of the centenary. Protocols were signed, but weren’t yet put into practice. That’s why today we have a concrete program related to culture, education and healthcare. It will be a nice, sensible program,” Gabriela Firea stated in a news conference in Bucharest.

Silvia Radu thanked her counterpart for the invitation to visit Bucharest and for the support provided by the Government of Romania. “The Government of Romania permanently helped Moldova. There were allocated significant amounts for repairing kindergartens and schools and school buses were bought. Money was donated for repairing the Organ Hall and the SMURD project was successfully implemented. All these helped improve people’s lives,” stated the acting mayor of Chisinau.

Under the signed program, the Chisinau City Hall will set up a common transport line that will serve tourist and cultural facilities in Moldova’s capital city. The Romanian side is to ensure the necessary consultancy and will donate two buses. Also, each year starting with 2018, the two municipalities will stage the Week of Bucharest Theaters in Chisinau and the Week of Chisinau Theaters in Bucharest.

In education, the municipality of Chisinau will offer logistic and material support for renovating the Chisinau Lyceum “Mihai Eminescu”, which in 2019 celebrates 50 years of the foundation. The two mayor’s offices pledged to provide tickets to summer camps for students who were awarded at contests and Olympiads. “We will offer tickets to camps in Romania both to children and to teachers. They will be able to go to the sea and to the mountains. We want to stimulate the children,” stated Gabriela Firea.

Based on a cooperation protocol that will be signed by the Metropolitan Library of Bucharest and the Municipal Library “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu”, there will be exchanged units of bibliotechonomy, while the Bucharest library will offer an important book donation to libraries of Chisinau.

In the health sector, the Bucharest City Hall will provide logistic and financial assistance in renovating Maternity Hospital No. 1 of Chisinau. There will be launched a training program designed for resident doctors and specialists from Chisinau. These will visit the 19 hospitals managed by the Bucharest City Hall.

“Regrettably, until now the relations between the City Halls weren’t so good, but a lot was done at governmental level. Today we turn the page and start new projects that will directly influence the life of the inhabitants of the capital city. This assistance is more than welcome,” stated Silvia Radu.

At the end of the conference, Gabriela Firea offered a peasant blouse and an album with picturesque places of Romania to Silvia Radu as presents, while Silvia Radu gave a peasant blouse and an icon to her counterpart.

Acting mayor general of Chisinau municipality Silvia Radu is paying a visit to Bucharest during February 13-15.
