Professional parent assistants from Chisinau municipality were honored at an event entitled “Mothers for other children” in Chisinau on March 9. The event was aimed at propagating the role of parent assistants for children who remained without parental care and at sensitizing the people to the problems faced by these children. It was staged by the Association CCF- Moldova – Child, Community, Family and the public association “Professional Parent Assistance” in partnership with the Chisinau Child Rights Protection Division.

Contacted by IPN, the president of CCF-Moldova Liliana Rotaru said the mothers who bring up children who remained without parental care shared their experience and told about the progress made by children educated and raised in their families. The parent assistants attended a concert and took part in interactive contests.

The president of CCF-Moldova noted that the work done by the parent assistants represents a real vocation. Owing to these persons, the children deprived of parental care are not institutionalized. “The professional parent assistants are like a filter. They prevent the institutionalization of children, in particular of the most vulnerable ones - children of an elderly age or with disabilities. For these, the stay in residential institutions is especially damaging,” stated Liliana Rotaru.

There are now 42 professional parent assistants in Chisinau municipality. These look after 50 children. Since 2000 until now, more than 170 children were raised and educated in families of professional parent assistants from the municipality.
