At national level, each fourth teacher is aged over 50 years, while the young specialists represent only 10% of all the teachers. The authorities’ priority is to attract young specialists to the education system and to insert these in the professional formation process. The issues were raised in the municipal forum of young specialists working at educational institutions in the municipality of Chisinau, IPN reports.

The head of the Municipal Council of the Education and Science Trade Union Margareta Sîrbu said the profession of teacher is valuable and implies a lot of courage, wisdom and will. However, contrary to the ideals and aspirations, the current school becomes less attractive for various reasons, such as the society’s attitude, disinformation and denigration, non-attractive salaries. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, each fourth teacher in the country is aged between 50 and 59 and the young specialists constitute only 10% of all the teachers. The attraction of young specialists and their insertion in the education process is therefore a priority for them.

Otilia Dandara, first pro-rector of the Moldova State University, stated that the percentage of employed young people in Moldova is low and things probably go wrong somewhere. The trade unions should come up with proposals to make the labor market in Moldova more attractive to young people in general, as the young people leave the country, and to teachers in particular.

The head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Andrei Pavaloi said the number of young specialists employed at municipal educational institutions this year is higher than the previous years. “We, those from the municipality, during these years tried to support the young specialists by different forms and methods. Our large staff of the municipal education system, of over 15,000 employees, is always ready to help anyone who wants to integrate into institutions and wants to be near us so that we together do so that things in our city change,” stated Andrei Pavaloi.

Mayor general Ion Ceban said the talented children cannot develop without devoted teachers. “We therefore need you and need your involvement, devotion and need you to grow other generations of children who will be talented, will represent us and of whom we will be proud. I hope those generations will prefer to stay in the country,” said the mayor, addressing the attending teachers.

The Chisinau City Hall offers financial support to young specialists from the capital city by providing subsidies for rented accommodations, for covering the costs associated with the remuneration of teachers teaching to specialized classes. Over 85 million lei was allocated from the state budget this year for the purpose.
