As a result of consultations in Odessa with Tiraspol delegation, mediators and observers found the impossibility of resuming the negotiation process at the moment and announced the necessity of continuing the consultations in this respect, a press release of the Reintegration Ministry informs.
Chisinau regrets the continuation of the pause in the 5+2 format meetings and is willing to return to the negotiation table to work out the Transnistria’s status respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, after reaching a consensus by the other participants in the process.
At the Wednesday’s meeting on 18 October, Chisinau delegation insisted on the immediate resumption of the 5+2 format negotiations and thanked the mediators and observers for the support. It was noted the consolidated support of the Chisinau’s position regarding the final aim of the negotiation process – the peaceful settlement of the conflict on the basis of working out the legal status of Transnistria respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.
As regards the subject matter of the negotiations, the Moldovan delegation reiterated its support for the plan of settlement presented by Ukraine in May 2005, completed by the documents approved by the Moldova Parliament in June-July 2005. In the context, Chisinau thanked the mediators and observers for continuing the negotiations and supporting the agenda of the previous rounds in 2005-2006.
Requested by Info-Prim Neo, political analyst Oazu Nantoi stated that the responsibility and the main burden of solving the Transnistrian conflict have to be taken by the government and Moldovan society on the whole.
“If we wish to have a truly unified country, we are obliged to draw up a national strategy of its reintegration. “The continuation of this absurd show– in “5+2”format, with the acceptance of Igor Smirnov’s regime as a representative of the population on the left bank of Nistru River - is a way of destroying the Moldovan state”, stated Nantoi.
The “5+2” format negotiations stopped at the end of February, after the sides couldn’t come to an agreement regarding a number of issues and, especially, the issue of the peasants in Dorotcaia, prohibited by the regime of Igor Smirnov to farm their plots in the zone under Tiraspol’s jurisdiction.
