The process of issuing national passports to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova is expected to return to normality as from next week. The authorities announced that about 50,000 blank passports are to be delivered to Moldova by the end of this week. This way, from next Thursday the persons will be able to apply for passports issued during five or ten days without preliminarily scheduling an appointment with the Public Services Agency (PSA). Also, from next week the applicants for passports will not be obliged to present confirming travel documents. Details in this regard were provided by the director of the Public Services Agency Mircea Eșanu in a news conference, IPN reports.

Mircea Eșanu noted that an atypical situation had been witnessed at the institution after the war started in Ukraine. During three months, there were issued as many passports as during seven months earlier. “It was a very difficult period. Our intention was not to stop the issuing of passports at least for a day. All the citizens who needed to go abroad in one day or in three days received passports. Today we also issue by 1,000 passports a day and will continue issuing them throughout this week,” stated the Agency’s director.

According to him, when the lot of 50,000 blank IDs is received, the situation at the Public Services Agency will return to normality. Another 100,000 blank IDs are to be shipped to the country by the end of August.

As the number of blank IDs will be enough, the Commission for Exceptional Situations will annul the decision by which it extended the period of validity of the Moldovan passports that expired or will expire by December 31, 2022 until June 30, 2023.

The Government on Wednesday approved a decision providing that the price of the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova will be decreased from 850 to 650 lei.
