Moldova’s President and informal leader of the Socialist Party Igor Dodon suggests that our country will experience problems with gas prices and exports to Russia unless the Socialists participate in forming a parliamentary majority and a government.

Dodon stated during a talk show on NTV that other agreements with Russia could be jeopardized as well, including on Moldovan migrant workers.

The president claimed that fresh apple exports, for example, “increased significantly, spiked” in the first two months of this year following understandings with Russia that are valid until July 1. Their extension depends on what the future government will look like, said Dodon.

But perhaps more important is what happens to gas prices as the current agreement with Russia is due to expire on January 1, 2020. “And this (future) government and parliamentary majority or partner should be trustworthy in the Russians’ eyes, because they won’t talk to just anyone (...) If it’s not a government, a parliamentary majority that also includes the Socialists, believe me, we will face problems with these issues”.

“To handle this, to find solutions, in my opinion the only solution is for the Socialists to participate in the government. Because the Socialists are the partners Russia trusts”, added Igor Dodon.
