The problem related to the disposal of household waste in the suburbs of Budesti, Tohatin, Cruzesti and Colonita has been solved, the Chisinau City Hall has said. According to the municipality, the problem was solved thanks to the implementation of the intercommunity project that is financially supported by the USAID-funded “My Community” program, the local authorities of the four suburbs, in partnership with the City Hall, IPN reports.
The project will benefit around 15,000 inhabitants. So far, more than 2,000 households have signed contracts for the organized disposal of household waste. “Identifying the own financial contribution was one of the challenges faced by the local public authorities of the first level in the implementation of this project. This task was carried out by the Chisinau City Hall, which responded to the call of the four suburbs to be an investment partner in the project,” reads a press release.
The total cost of the project was over 6.7 million lei. Thus, two waste trucks, a multifunctional tractor and 13,500 garbage bins were purchased and offered free of charge to beneficiaries.
In 2022, the Chisinau City Hall invested 2.5 million lei at the first stage of building a garage for the sanitation equipment purchased within the project for the mayor’s offices of Budesti, Tohatin, Cruzesti and Colonita. For the second stage of the building works, 1.9 million lei was earmarked in the municipal budget for 2023.
