The initiative group for founding the Party for Animal Rights considers the problem of stray animals is not a headache, as the authorities believe, but is a social problem.

In a news conference at IPN, Ion Chistol, a member of the initiative group, said he would like the animals not to be left to wander on the street, near schools, kindergartens or parks, where they can endanger the lives of humans. The solving of problems related to stray animals should not yet include inhuman actions.

“These creatures are now treated with cruelty, are poisoned and killed. Yes, we all know that the animals do not have reason, but they become stray owing to humans, who are capable of reason. The reason should prevent us from ill-treating the animals,” stated Ion Chistol. According to him, the authorities should design special programs in this regard and society and each person apart should become more involved.

The initiative group announced the creation of the new political party - the Party for Animal Rights – on December 11. The political movement will struggle for the protection of nature and the observance of animal rights in Moldova.

Initiative group member Ion Dron said Moldova does not have a law that would ban the abandonment of animals and didn’t ratify the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals.

The initiative group adopted a manifesto whereby it condemns the abandonment and cruel treatment of animals. The ideas stated in the manifesto will be detailed in the program of the Party for Animal Rights, which will specify the party’s political beliefs.
