Articles about combating of trafficking in human beings in Moldova will be published in the print media in Germany. They will be written by a group of German specialists working in different fields, who paid a fact-collecting visit to Moldova. The visit was organized by the Federal Center for Political Education in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Veaceslav Balan, program assistant at the OSCE Mission to Moldova, has told Info-Prim Neo that the German guests familiarized themselves with the activities aimed at combating trafficking in human beings in Moldova as part of series of events, including the roundtable meeting “Aspects of the Fight against Human Trafficking and Rehabilitation of Victims”, which was held on October 6.
According to the meeting participants, trafficking in human beings in Moldova has specific features, determined by migration, discrimination and mentality of the society.
Iurie Ursan, the deputy head of the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons, said that most of the victims of human trafficking come from socially vulnerable families that live in rural areas.
According to statistics, 193 cases of trafficking in human beings have been discovered in Moldova in the 8 months of the year. 81% of the victims were women, while 14% children and teens.
The persons have been trafficked all these years mainly for sexual or labor exploitation, begging and transplant of organs.
The major countries of destination for trafficked persons are Turkey, Russia, Cyprus, the Arab Emirates, Ukraine and Kosovo.
The key aim of the Federal Center for Political Education is to promote democratic conscience and political participation. The Center’s activities are aimed at cultivating abilities to critically analyze political and social problems and at motivating the people to actively participate in the political life.
