The sales manager of the Pro TV Chisinau channel, Ghenadie Braghis, arrested for an alleged bribery case, on whose name the Rascani region Court issued an arrest warrant on September 10, was set free on Tuesday evening.
Braghis was set free as a result of an appeal forwarded by the General Magistracy (GM). In a press release of the GM is mentioned that “as there are no more grounds to hold the person under custody, the General Magistracy cancelled the preventive arrest, and the suspect will be inquired while free”.
The PRO TV Chisinau representative, Corneliu Durnescu confirmed for Info-Prim Neo that Braghis was set free, and stated that the channel will shortly publish a press release on the matter.
The lawyer of Braghis, Vladislav Rosca, declared for the Agency that according to the GM decision, “the circumstances that led to the arrest have disappeared, meaning the suspect, now free, will not make disobey the law, will not avoid the inquiry bodies, will not have a detrimental influence on the evidence and will not pressure witnesses and the victim”.
According to Rosca, „the justice bodies have realized the warrant is not entirely legal, and to avoid the cancellation of the warrant as a result of an appeal from Braghis’ defense, decided to correct the mistake”.
The sales manager of Pro TV Chisinau, Ghenadie Braghis, was arrested on Sunday for 10 days based on a court decision of the Riscani district. For 3 days after his arrest for bribery charges from an economic agent, that informed the justice bodies, Braghis was held in the detention center without the right to defense. Pro TV Chisinau qualified this arrest as a setup of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, meant as a reply to the journalistic investigations regarding the false study diploma of the minister Gheorghe Papuc and an intention of the MIA to hamper the reputation of the channel. Several political parties and mass-media organizations have criticized the political subtext of the Pro TV Chisinau employee arrest.
