The members of the Pro Moldova parliamentary group will request the Constitutional Court to interpreted provisions of the Constitution concerning foreign policy. They want to know if other institutions, such as the Presidential Office, can or cannot speak about a balanced foreign policy – towards East and towards West – when Parliament clearly set the European integration course, IPN reports.
In a news conference on March 6, the group’s leader Andrian Candu said there were a lot of discussions about who should represent the Republic of Moldova at the UN or at European institutions: the Premier, the President, the Parliament Speaker. The powers of these institutions are not perceived unambiguously, especially because the Republic of Moldova is a parliamentary republic. Respectively, the powers should be clearly specified. “We understand the President’s wish to go abroad, to have pictures with world leaders. But what the effect of something like this is? A lot of money is spent on such trips. But what the people gain from these trips?” wondered the MP.
Asked if the parliamentary group will run in this year’s presidential elections, Andrian Candu said that any electoral political struggle should be in the focus of any political organization. The group is at the incipient stage and initiates the collection of signatures and the formation of territorial organizations so as to organize the constitution congress in an optimal period of time. They will take decisions after their party is registered.
In the same news conference, representatives of the Pro-Moldova group presented a draft decision by which they proposed that the Memory Day celebrated on March 2 should be renamed the Memory and Gratitude Day. The initiative also contains a series of proposals and recommendations concerning the organization of activities on March 2, intended for the central and local authorities.
