The thousands of people who came together in the Great National Assembly Square on November 3 adopted a statement in support of Moldova’s irreversible course of European integration. The statement says that the Moldovans who took part in the assembly held in the central square of Chisinau before the Vilnius Summit proclaim the European option as the only correct option for the country’s future and the only chance to ensure the respect for the human rights and fundamental freedoms, IPN reports.

“We commit ourselves to promoting the European values, each in their settlement. This major moment requires being united and decided in our choice. We encourage the Government to deal with all the internal and external political pressure and call on the political class to show unity and maturity for the European cause. We approve of the support provided by the EU to our country in this period. Moldova’s future is decided now. The future is in the EU. God help us!”, reads the statement.

The crowd raised the hands, voting for the statement. The meeting in support of the pro-European course began with the singing of the National Anthem by soprano Valentina Nafornita. The event involved people from all the country’s districts. They carried thousands of tricolors and flags of the EU. Some of the participants appeared in the square in an original way. The group from Orhei district came accompanied by an orchestra.

The head of Leova district Efrosinia Gretu said that over 900 people from Leova came to benevolently take part in the assembly staged by the government coalition to support Moldova’s European course.  She said that the European integration is the only chance of developing the country and modernizing the infrastructure and the villages. The European integration will help the authorities to improve the quality of the life of pensioners and to create workplaces.

According to the organizers, more than 60,000 people attended the event.
