Ex-minister of foreign affairs of Romania Adrian Cioroianu said the encouragement of a pro-European policy is now the best and most efficient solution for the Republic of Moldova to come closer to Romania. In an interview for Radio Free Europe’s Moldovan Service, which was quoted by IPN, Adrian Cioroianu noted he says this because Moldova needs governmental policies that haven’t been implemented after 1990.

Adrian Cioroianu stated that today they speak less about Moldova’s European perspective than in 2010-2012. The EU leaders lay emphasis differently on the Eastern Partnership. The European aspiration would be beneficial to Moldova and this would not deny the country’s history and the recollections of those who lived in the 1940s.

“We speak about a state from which millions and billions disappear. We speak about a state where corruption or political inefficiency is a problem recognized by any lucid person who is interested in the proper development of his community. Knowing the example of Romania, the progress we made somehow pushed by this idea of coming closer to particular European standards, I sincerely think that such a European temptation will do good to the Republic of Moldova as well,” noted Adrian Cioroianu.

The ex-minister also spoke about the current pro-unionism manifestations. According to him, some of these manifestations could derive from not well-intentioned sources. Some of them can actually endanger the idea and this aspect should be more attentively studied on both sides of the Prut.

In another development, Adrian Cioroianu said he was recently in Chisinau and understood that a part of the population wants Moldova to come closer to the EU and this part of the population is slightly larger than of those who want to come closer to Romania.
