A young man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing his ex-girlfriend and assaulting her mother. The incident took place last summer in Drochia district, and the court has now convicted him of attempted murder and death threats, IPN reports.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, on the evening of July 3, the defendant got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend and her mother while at a local venue in the village. After consuming alcohol, he allegedly entered their household and physically assaulted them.

The man was arrested and remained in pre-trial detention until the verdict was issued. The Drochia Court, Central Office, ruled that he will serve his sentence in a high-security prison.

The sentence is not final and can be appealed at the North Court of Appeal.
