The chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca, who was recently appointed as the head of the Parliamentary Council for European Integration, discussed the implementation of the Moldova –EU Association Agreement and the Council’s role in this process with the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola, IPN reports.
“Starting from the idea that this Council is an important instrument for monitoring and exercising parliamentary control over the European integration process at legislative and executive levels, we agreed to synchronize the actions so as to stimulate the given processes,” stated Iurie Leanca.
In the context of the recent Parliament’s Declaration on the launch of the National Partnership for European Integration, Iurie Leanca asked for Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola’s assistance in achieving the set objectives. In particular, he underlined the legislative body’s call to the EU institutions and member states to urgently launch an EU-JUST-type mission in Moldova, which would practically contribute to strengthening the independence of justice, implementing the law enforcement reform and fighting high-level corruption.
Last week, Iurie Leanca and the government coalition signed an agreement on the National Partnership for European Integration. It was then announced that Iurie Leanca was named as chairman of the Parliamentary Council for European Integration.
