The price of sunflower seeds may reach 5 lei in three weeks. Andrei Garlea, producer from Rezina, has told IPN that this will happen because the farmers need money for performing field works.

“We must plow the land and sow it and we do not have disposable financial resources. We must also repay the loans. The people have to raise the prices,” said the producer.

The sunflower seeds now sell for 4.30-4.40 lei/kg. In September, the prices fell to 3.60-3.80 lei/kg because the producers had a surplus and didn’t have where to store it.

The chairman of the National Union of Agricultural Producers Associations “UniAgroProtect” Alexandru Slusari said the price of sunflower seeds started to grow last week, from 4.15 to 4.30 lei/kg.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov has told IPN that the rises were expected as the price of 4.30 lei per kilogram of seeds is too low.
