Prime Minister Valeriu Strelets has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food Safety Agency to present exhaustive information on a recent piece of regulation concerning meat imports that has sparked controversy, IPN reports.

“I have asked to be informed in detail which EU directive we have followed by adopting this regulation, whether the procedure was followed exactly, how urgent the matter was of adopting this regulation, and where the fault is, if any of course”, the prime minister wrote on a social network page. He says that once he has the whole information, it will be decided if the act needs review.

Earlier this month, the Government adopted a piece of regulation related to animal and public health, regulating among other things the certification of meat imports. It has been reported that the regulation contains a clause allowing imports of non-conformant meat provided that the product has been subjected to heat treatment.
