Prime Minister Vlad Filat demanded the law enforcement bodies, the Prosecutor’s Office and CCECC to form a task group that would review the files on the allocation of funds for the reconstruction of Cahul-Giurgiulesti railway section, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We have information that no feasibility studies or analysis of impact had been done before the construction of this section”, declared the PM after a government meeting on Monday. Vlad Filat said that those guilty of stealing public funds will be punished. He asked the Ministry of Transports and Road Infrastructure to develop a plan for repairing the damage and resuming circulation on this segment. Cargo and passenger railway traffic between Cahul and Giurgiulesti temporarily stopped because it is not safe enough for the transportation of goods and passengers. A routine inspection found that the embankment had slid on a segment of 10-12 meters, at a distance of 1.80 meters between the traverse and the Prut River. The restoration of this railroad segment would cost about 350 million lei.
