During his visit in Gagauzia, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said that “it is time to draw a line, to stop blaming each other for past mistakes and start building together with our democratic, rule-of-law state – the Republic of Moldova”. In his speech, the official also said that “we are all in the same boat, which cannot go in several directions simultaneously and we must all learn to live with our own vision, while carefully analyzing the suggestions and advice of others”, IPN reports.

Strelet admitted that many in Chisinau and Comrat still have different views on what happened in August 1990. Some say that the events unfolded under the flag of freedom and self-determination, while others see them as an attempt to unravel the country and saw chaos and disorder. The Prime Minister stressed that the only way to grow and develop is to look forward with confidence to a common future within the sovereign and democratic Republic of Moldova.

According to him, one of the goals of the government is the harmonious integration of ethnic minorities in the Moldovan society, while respecting and preserving their culture, languages, traditions and identities. “We must all cooperate for the development of Moldova, to strengthen peace, prosperity, harmony and mutual respect. All complex problems can be solved by consulting each other. If we engage in pragmatical dialogue, discarding politics and thinking about the real needs of the people and the laws of the country, I am confident we can solve many problems and be up to any challenge”, said the PM.

Valeriu Strelet insisted that Gagauzia is a organic part of Moldova and should participate actively in the processes of European modernization, reforms and development, that are underway throughout the country.
