Natalia Gavrilița notes that Lilian Carabeț has not been appointed as head of the National Police Inspectorate (IGP), but has been put temporarily in charge until a proper replacement is found. The prime minister was pressed to make this clarification in response to a newspaper report which suggested that the officer owes a house that is obviously undervalued in his official declaration.
“Lilian Carabeț has not been appointed as interim IGP head, he is just temporarily in charge. We are in search of people who meet our requirements and the people’s requirements as concerns integrity and professionalism, and therefore I call on all opinion shapers to publicly recommend honorable people who have the authority and experience needed to manage this extremely complex system”, stated Gavrilița.
A report by the investigative publication Ziarul de Gardă revealed that Lilian Carabeț lives in a house “worth millions” located in Dumbrava, an expensive neighborhood on Chisinau’s outskirts. Carabeț however estimated the property to be worth 45,500 euros in his declaration.
