A man from Cantemir district was sentenced to 12 years in jail for raping his minor stepdaughter whom he impregnated. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in January – August 2016 the 40-year-old man who served as a priest repeatedly abused sexually his partner’s daughter aged 13 whom he maintained. It happened in their home when the mother was away, IPN reports.
The truth came out when the girl entered the prenatal period and the pregnancy could not be hidden. To escape punishment, the man abandoned priesthood and went to live in Chisinau together with his concubine and her daughter. He started to work as a taxi driver. The woman tried to hide the truth even if she learned about the man’s abuses. Meanwhile, the minor girl gave birth to a child. The competent authorities were notified by the doctors who assisted the delivery.
The man was taken in custody in the courtroom and is to serve 12 years behind bars. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
