Priest Maxim Melinti, bishop of the church of Ghidighici village, repents and asks the Moldovan Metropolitan Church to restore his right to hold services and stage liturgical, social and missionary activities. In a press briefing at PN, the priest promised he will be more attentive to his replies and acts.
Last month, by a decree signed by Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir, priest Maxim Melinti was banned from holding services for the reason that he promoted and encouraged the sexual minorities, including the development of the LGBT community in Moldova. Today the priest addressed the sexual minorities, apologizing to them for generating false illusions and hopes even if the intentions were good. Maxim Melinti said he renounces the appreciation diploma of Genderdoc-M (organization that safeguards the interests of the LGBT community, e.n.) and will refuse to cooperate with the given organization in the promotion of sin.
“Analyzing things well, I understood that I had been in contradiction to myself for a long time and today I decided that it’s time to stop. It is not easy. When you take such a decision, you are in a state of anxiety. I assume this gesture of sincerity first of all before myself and I wouldn’t have forgiven myself if I hadn’t made this gesture,” stated the priest.
Maxim Melinti said he is constrained by no one. “I admit and state that I made a mistake while I was feverishly looking for answers to essential questions in life. I also made us of other sources and extracted ideas from other springs than the own traditions. I didn’t understand that in the Church it is important not to say something new, but to assert what is old already,” stated the priest.
He admitted that he didn’t think about the consequences of his acts and that, by his behavior, gestures and attitudes, he could upset many of the faithful ones. “I had ignored for too long the canons, teachings and wisdoms of the Scripture in the traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church. I was wrong when I remained blunt and indifferent to the calls, pieces of advice and attempts by His Holiness first of all, by other priests and persons to review my mistaken opinions and change my attitude,” said Maxim Melinti.
The priest noted he is not behind, is not involved in and has no connection with all the denigrating postings and public assertions made by opinion leaders in relation to the Moldovan Metropolitan Church and the Metropolitan Bishop.
