Price of diesel fuel nears price of gasoline

The fuel prices continue to go up. For March 29, the National Agency for Energy Regulation set the price ceilings for diesel fuel at 26.97 lei/liter, up 0.34 lei, and for gasoline “95” at 27.11 lei/liter, up 0.07 lei, IPN reports.

The price of petroleum products, such as gasoline and diesel fuel, is correlated with the quotations set by the U.S. company S&P Global Platts. On each workday, oil sellers and buyers place offers on the Platts “Market on Close” platform. The prices for 1 tonnes of gasoline and diesel fuel are set at 4:30, London time (6:30pm Chisinau), based on the most traded price per tonne that day. The transactions are separated by the geographical principle so that the prices set by Platts accurately reflect the situation in a particular region, the Agency noted in a press release.

The regulator in its calculation methodology uses the average value of Platts quotations for the 14 previous days correlated with the leu/dollar exchange rate plus the excise duty, the value added tax and the specific profit margin.

This is the second rise in prices after several insignificant declines. In mid-March, the National Agency for Energy Regulation said the retail prices of the standard petroleum products - COR “95” and diesel fuel – reached the upper levels and pump prices would stabilize.
