Press Freedom Days to be celebrated in Moldova

On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day that is celebrated on May 3, several events will take place in Moldova.
On May 1-5, Chisinau will host the International Festival of Documentary Film “Cronograf”.
On May 3, the “Press Freedom Days 2007” conference will bring together representatives of different Moldovan media organisations. On the same day, the Independent Journalism Centre will launch the new version of its web page.
On the same day it will be published a report themed “The independence of news agencies and newspapers part of API” (May-June 2007) and a monitoring report “The enforcement of the Access to Information Law”. The Press Club to hold a meeting themed “Training of Moldovan journalists”.
On May 4, it is expected to take place the training course for judges, prosecutors and lawyers on the topic “Ensuring access to information through facilitation of access to justice”, as well as the meeting of the Investigative Journalists Club on the topic “Media in Court: how to avoid trials and how to build a good defensive strategy”.
A press conference themed “Monitoring of the implementing of the Audiovisual Code in Moldova” is scheduled for May 10.
In addition, in the period from May to June the reforms promoted by the Broadcasting Coordination Council in the local media will be monitored in newscasts; events related to the appointment of the new leadership of “Teleradio Moldova” Company will be covered by media; the Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism will start to recruit students.
The organizers of the events are: The Independent Journalism Centre (IJC), Association of Independent Press (API), Acces-Info Centre, Investigative Journalism Centre (CIN), Committee for the Freedom of Media, Media Agency IMPACT, Association of Electronic Press (APEL), Supreme Council of Magistrates, Supreme Court of Justice, National Institute of Justice, OWH TV Studio, Association of Independent Journalists (Romania), Romanian Cultural Institute, Radio Free Europe. The events will be sponsored by Soros Foundation-Moldova, the Open Society Institute (Budapest), Helsinki Committee (Sweden), the Union of Filmakers, TV 5 Monde and the French Alliance in Moldova.
