The Press Council of Moldova has elected the new members for the next two years - 2014- 2016. The nine members were chosen by two rounds of contest. Five of them represent the media consumers, while four the journalistic community. In their first meeting, the new members of the Press Council reelected Ludmila Andronic as president, IPN reports.

The four members who represent the journalistic guild are: Alina Turcanu, editor-in-chief of the paper “Adevarul Moldova”; Dumitru Ciorici, editorial director of the portal unimedia.info; Veaceslav Perunov, editor of the Balti paper “SP”, and Maia Sadovici, the representative of the Regional Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Gagauzia”.

The media consumers will be represented by Ludmila Andronic, who was proposed for the post of Press Council member by the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the State University of Moldova; Olga Manole, fielded by “Promo-LEX” Association; Vitalie Condratski, put forward by a group of media consumers; Chiril Motpan, also proposed by a group of media consumers, and Daniela Samboteanu, suggested by UNICEF Moldova and supported by the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

Press Council secretary Petru Macovei said the Council’s founders consider that the new composition is a powerful one as it includes persons who showed professionalism in their work.

In the first meeting of the Council in its new composition, Ludmila Andronic was reelected as president. Vitalie Condratski was also proposed for the post of president. The Council’s regulations provide that the president is elected by a unanimous vote by the Council members. When there are two candidates, this thing is impossible. Therefore, four of the six founders of the Press Council approved amendments to the regulations, allowing electing the president by 2/3 of the votes. As a result, six members voted for Ludmila Andronic, while three for Vitalie Condratski.
