The chairman of the public association “Moldova mea” Fiodor Ghelici said President Igor Dodon’s proposal to introduce the mixed-member electoral system is the only suitable solution at the moment. The activist considers the President’s opinion should be respected because he was elected by the majority of people and this opinion represents the people.
In a news conference at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici said in the parliamentary elections of 2014 everyone voted for parties. Everyone made their choice, but the picture today in Parliament is different owing to political cruising. The activist noted he approves of the Democratic Party’s initiative to introduce the uninominal voting system, but, given that he was betrayed as a voter, he fears a new trap and that the ‘buying’ of politicians can reach even greater proportions.
According to Ghelici, the people understand that a change is needed. The question is, how to change the mentality of politicians. That’s why the people treat the proposal to modify the electoral system with skepticism.
The activist considers the proposal to introduce the mixed-member electoral system, put forward by President Dodon, derives from the fact that society and the political forces are split and the Head of State realizes that his task is to bring together everyone to the negotiating table.
Fiodor Ghelici also said that the President should be supported because he was elected by a majority of people’s votes. He condemns the criticism that appeared after the President’s announcement, saying it is not right to throw dirt at the people who chose Igor Dodon as Head of State.
