The President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko came to Moldova on a visit when the country needs support. The three states develop relations of friendship and regional cooperation, Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti said in a joint news conference given after a meeting in trilateral format with his Polish and Ukrainian counterparts, IPN reports.

Nicolae Timofti thanked the two Presidents for their support. In the meeting, the officials spoke about the prospects of solving the conflicts in the region. Nicolae Timofti underlined that Moldova supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, which plays an important role in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. As to the relations with Poland, the Moldovan head of state said he counts on this country’s further support for Moldova’s European course.

Bronisław Komorowski noted that Poland joined NATO 15 years ago and the EU ten years ago and the country’s people feel safe. He voiced hope that the Moldovans in the November 30 parliamentary elections will decide by their votes to maintain the European course, while Poland will assist Moldova in implementing reforms.

Petro Poroshenko said that this is the first visit he pays to Moldova as President of Ukraine. He underlined that in the legislative elections in his country, 80% of the people showed that they want Ukraine to become part of the EU and he wishes Moldova to do the same. He added that Moldova and Ukraine have yet many things to do together, including to cooperate in resolving the Transnistrian dispute.

At the end of the conference, Nicolae Timofti conferred the Order of the Republic, which is the highest state award in Moldova, on the two heads of state in gratitude for supporting Moldova’s efforts on the path to European integration.
