Presidential Office mourns for painter Andrei Mudrea

President Maia Sandu issued a message of condolence over the death of painter Andrei Mudrea, who was one of the most talented and known plastic artists in the Republic of Moldova. “In his person, we lost a valuable artist and also a citizen who was deeply involved in the life of the country and society,” says the message that is quoted by IPN.

The Presidential Office describes Andrei Mudrea as a courageous and dignified man, a person who always looked for beauty, light and freedom in arts and also in life. He was a creator who always tended to think out of the box and to reinvent himself, finding unique ways of expression.

President Sandu transmitted sincere condolences to the painter’s relatives, friends, artists and all those who knew and praised him.

From 1969 to 1973, Mudrea studied at the School of Fine Arts “I. Repin”, currently the Republican College of Fine Arts “Alexandru Plămădeală” in Chisinau. From 1975 forward, he worked and studied painting in Mihai Grecu’s studio. From 1975 until 1985, he was a teacher at the School of Fine Arts for children in Orhei city. In 1978, he made his debut with the paintings “Mother” and “The parent’s house”, and from 1978 until his death he participated in all the exhibitions organized by the Union of Plastic Artists of the Republic of Moldova.

Since 1985, he had been in creative work and was a freelancer. His works were exhibited in Moscow, Bucharest, Paris, Saint-Malo, Warsaw, Strasbourg (Council of Europe), Lisbon and currently form part of public and private collections. In 2001, he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Master of Arts”. He died on January 16, 2022, at the age of 67.
