The President of Moldova was elected in snap elections that had a successful ending as the elected head of state has very good abilities that can be of use to the country, former Prime Minister Ion Sturza said in the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV channel, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The former Premier stated that he did not have much contact with Nicolae Timofti during his political career, but cooperated with him in the process of strengthening reforms at the end of the 1990s. “I think it was a surprise for Mister Timofti himself. It is a great psychological challenge for him even if he had a great career. I think he made a step closer to God. I believe he did not expect he will be fielded for the presidency,” he said.
Ion Sturza also said he possesses information that the leader of the Liberal Party Ghimpu expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Nicolae Timofti does not know the economic sphere very well, but when he was asked to propose candidates he gave several names, including of Nicolae Timofti, and this candidate was accepted by his colleagues from the AEI.
According to the former Prime Minister, Nicole Timofti during his career showed that he has a position. “The people are yet weak. Even the most authoritative persons can be corrupted. Steps started already to be taken, including giving him a villa, a new car. Somebody will offer him a Patek Philippe watch or a Vertu telephone. His wife will be invited to do the shopping in Milan. Another person will promote his children,” said Ion Sturza.
Nicolae Timofti was voted in as President on March 16. The Communist lawmakers did not take part in the voting. The investiture will take place in Parliament, in the presence of judges of the Constitutional Court and ambassadors working in Moldova.
