The lawmakers Wednesday decided that the presidential elections will take place on March 16, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said the way to normality and democracy is hard. “During the last two years, we saw that certain political forces have made effort to prevent Moldova from moving on and making progress on the path to democracy and prosperity. Currently, these forces also boycott the processes that the country needs. Today we have political will and preconditions for electing the President and we hope the outcome will be the expected one,” he stated.
The head of the Democratic faction Dumitru Diacov said that any day can be important. “After months of discussions and negotiations, we reached a consensus and are very glad. The head of state will have to reconcile the people and create a healthy atmosphere on the political arena of Moldova. The Communist faction should have expressed its option as well,” said the MP.
The head of the Liberal group Ion Hadarca stressed that the Liberal Party was consistent in its steps as it wanted to avoid the early elections. “We have always looked for an amicable solution. The Liberal Party is concerned about the insurance of balance inside the AEI and the current Government’s stability,” he said.
Unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea said the solution finding games became absurd. “The fact that the date of the presidential elections was set is a result, but what will follow? You can count on my support only when you adopt a serious approach,” he stated.
The group of Socialists also voted in favor of fixing the date of the elections for March 16.
