Parliament decided that the presidential elections in Moldova will take place on October 30. The relevant draft decision was adopted in the April 1 siting after the legislative initiative presented by a group of MPs of the ruling alliance was added to the agenda as a matter of urgency, IPN reports.

One of the authors of the initiative, democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said the decision is aimed at ensuring predictability. All the technical matters will be dealt with by July 30, when the decision takes effect. The election campaign will start after this date.

Liberal-Democratic MP Chiril Lucinschi proposed that the presidential elections should be held on July 3, but his proposal didn’t garner the necessary number of votes.

The decision to set the presidential elections for October 30 was carried by the votes of 50 MPs, which represented a majority of the MPs attending the meeting. The Socialist and Liberal-Democratic MPs voted against.
