Presidential elections may be called in three or four years, politologist

Politologist Mihai Cernencu believes the date of presidential elections will be fixed only after a solution to the political crisis is found. The elections can take place in three or even four years. Meanwhile, the post of head of state will be held on an interim basis. The politologist has told Info-Prim Neo that the ruling alliance could follow a less correct path – to postpone the election of the head of state, accusing the PCRM for boycotting any initiative in this respect. Mihai Cernencu said that the PCRM’s statements that the Constitutional Court avoided assuming responsibility, allowing the legislative body to set the date of the presidential elections are nonsense. The Court cannot comment on what is not stipulated in the supreme law. “The Constitutional Court showed the Communists and the entire society that we have a new situation that is not described in the Constitution,” said the politologist. According to him, the PCRM lost an important instrument whereby it mocked at the government coalition. “The PCRM’s behavior in Parliament is not a contemporary working method,” said Mihai Cernencu. He also said the legislative body should prepare an organic law on the period over which the head of state should be elected and submit it to the Constitutional Court. After it is accepted by judges, it will be adopted in Parliament by the vote of at least 52 MPs in half a year.
