Any candidate running for president will have to constitute an initiative group that will be registered with the Central Electoral Commission. If the initiative comes from citizens, the initiative group shall be made up of at least 25 and at most 100 eligible voters.
An initiative group shall be inaugurated at the citizens’ meeting where endorsement for a certain candidate is formally declared. The group will then have to elect a leader and approve the list of members. The designated candidate must participate in the inaugural meeting and may be elected as the group’s leader.
In the case of parties and electoral blocs, their respective leadership will hold a meeting to establish the group and its members, which will then be authorized to collect endorsement signatures.
To register the initiative group with the CEC, the designated candidate must submit a set of documents no later than 50 days before election day. Within 3 days of receiving the documents, the CEC decides on the registration of the group.
