The Parliament appointed the presidential adviser Artur Reshetnikov as head of the Information and Security Service (SIS) on November 1. Reshetnikov said that the Service will continue working in strict compliance with the legislation, according to the principles of legality and observance of the fundamental human rights and freedoms. Speaking about the candidacy of Reshetnikov, Deputy Speaker Iurie Rosca, president of the Christian Democratic People’s Party, said that among his advantages are the age, the status of civilian and the quality of experienced lawyer. At the same time, the Opposition expressed concerns over the fact that Reshetnikov comes from the presidential office and they questioned his ability to be equidistant in relation to all the political forces and to eliminate the attempts to pursue, for political reasons, the persons that do not form part of the ruling party. Reshetnikov was appointed as SIS director for a five-year period by the vote of the Communist and Christian-Democratic parliamentarians. He will replace Ion Ursu, who resigned from this post and was recently named as Ambassador to Greece. Artur Reshetnikov was born on November 11, 1975 in Ocnita town. He is licentiate in law and worked as lecturer and lawyer. He had been presidential adviser on legal matters from 2001.
