A presidential legislative initiative that stipulates differentiated forms of final examination of lyceum students was presented by advisers to the President Corneliu Popovich and Maxim Lebedinski on March 23. The initiative envisions the introduction of the national exam, as in other European states. This includes a lower number of subjects than the Baccalaureate exams. Those who pass it will be able to continue their studies at particular institutions, including universities, IPN reports.

Under the initiative, each student will get a graduation certificate when completing their studies. The lyceum students who will want to take the Baccalaureate exams as well will submit a relevant application to the school administration. Now the situation is different – those who do not want to sit Baccalaureate exams file applications.

Corneliu Popovich said the initiative was drafted following discussions with education institution directors, parents and graduates as well as employers. The failing of the Baccalaureate exams has a negative impact on society as the young people cannot continue their studies, while employers refuse to hire them if these do not have a Baccalaureate diploma. The annulment of three years of studies for the reason that the Baccalaureate exams are failed is inadmissible.

For his part, Maxim Lebedinski said the young people have different aptitudes and knowledge. One is good at math, while another one knows a foreign language better and the authorities should take this into account. What happened at the Baccalaureate exams during the past years affected the students’ future. By introducing the national exam, the young people will be offered more opportunities.
