“The head of state will not be elected on November 18 if there is another candidate than Marian Lupu. The Liberal Party (PL) at least will not give its votes,” the party’s head Mihai Ghimpu said. He stressed they will never vote for Zinaida Greceany, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Zinaida Greceanyi cannot be elected head of state because she does not have character, said Mihai Ghimpu. “If you do not have character, everyone can mould you as they want and this is the goal pursued. I do not want somebody to mould a person into the alliance’s enemy,” the Liberal leader said in a program on Prime TV channel.
According to Ghimpu, the PL will not vote for Zinaida Greceanyi because this would mean the party’s suicide. “Who is Missis Greaceanyi in the people’s mentality? As a PM and a lawmaker, she promoted the policy and ideology of the Communist Party,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
He remembered the statements made by Zinaida Greceanyi in April 2009, when she said the police officers will use all the means available to stop the protests. “A candidate with a carbine, with ‘April 7’ behind. A woman who is a mother does not have the right to say such words,” said the MP.
Mihai Ghimpu did not share the opinion of another invitee to the program, commentator Roman Mihaes, who said that both Zinaida Greceanyi and Marian Lupu should submit the applications for the post of head of state on November 14, while the negotiations can continue until November 18, when the presidential elections will take place.
According to the Liberal leader, if the necessary number of voted are not found for Marian Lupu, the only way is to field no candidate. “If the head of state is not elected, we should hold a referendum on the adoption of a new Constitution so as to modify the number of votes needed from 61 into 51. We better change the voting mechanism than have early elections,” he said.
Mihai Ghimpu, who initially welcomed the defection of the three MPs from the Communist parliamentary group, now says that the Dodon group is not better than the other members of the parliamentary group of the PCRM.
The deadline for submitting applications for the presidency is November 14. The ruling alliance’s candidate remains officially Marian Lupu. The components of the ruling alliance have 58 seats of MP, but need 61 votes to elect the head of state. Three unaffiliated MPs who left the PCRM proposed the AEI to together vote in Zinaida Grecianyi as head of state.
